Camping

Camping at the Petaluma KOA is included in the Trek package. DON’T LIKE TO PITCH A TENT?  There are alternate lodging options (RV Park and Kamping Kabins and Lodges) at the KOA for rent. For reservations/more information on these, call the Petaluma KOA at (707) 763-1492. Make sure to tell them you are with the Emigrant Trails Bike Trek!! DO NOT MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS ONLINE! Trekkers and volunteers who choose alternate lodging (other than camping in a tent) are responsible for making their own reservations and paying associated fees.

Thursday Night Arrival/Camping

Thursday night arrival and camping is available for Trekkers and Camp Guests who wish to arrive and camp the night before the Trek start (September 9th). Pre-registration is required as well as a nominal $20 fee to cover the cost of camping and breakfast on Friday morning.

RV's

If you are bringing an RV, you are responsible for making your own reservation and paying the associated fees.  Call the Petaluma KOA at (707) 763-1492 to reserve your spot.  Make sure to tell them you are with the Emigrant Trails Bike Trek!! DO NOT MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS ONLINE!

Routes

Each day Trekkers will enjoy a different route departing from and returning to the Petaluma KOA. Riders will be able to choose among different routes each day, depending on their cycling ability. Click the links below to view each day's route maps.

What You Should Bring on the Trek

The following is your packing list for the Trek. Even though we will probably have excellent weather, it is always a good idea to be prepared for variable weather. The ideas below are only recommendations. You should modify them to fit your own preferences and needs and the weather forecast. Click here for a printable version.

What you need for Cycling:

  • Helmet (this is REQUIRED)
  • One pair of riding gloves
  • One pair of shoes—stiff-soled cycling shoes are best
  • Three pairs of riding shorts—with a padded seat
  • Three jerseys or t-shirts
  • Windbreaker
  • A long sleeved shirt for layering and sun protection
  • Bike pump
  • Water bottle for bike (two are recommended)
  • Tire patch kit with tire irons/replacement tire tube
  • Identification
  • Camera

What you need for Camping:

  • Warm jacket for evenings
  • Jeans
  • Shorts
  • Swimsuit
  • Sweater
  • Sweats, sweatshirt
  • Walking shoes that can get dirty
  • Towel (quick dry is best)
  • Sleeping bag and stuff sack
  • Tent
  • Pillow
  • Ground cloth
  • Soft-sided bag for gear
  • Toiletries
  • Insect repellant
  • Medications (ibuprofen, aspirin, allergy meds, etc.)
  • Flashlight (highly recommended)
  • Flip-flops
  • Money for anything you might want to buy (massages, photos, Cantina, Trek Trading Post items)

Saturday Night Fun!What to Expect in Camp

Trek Central
Trek Central is the main information hub on the Trek where you can go to get your questions answered, check out if you need to leave early, receive first aid, check the lost & found, and more.

Camp Guests
You are allowed to bring guests with you who are not riding, but they must pre-register and pre-pay. Click here to review the Camp Guest Policy. Camp Guests should check in to Trek Central when they arrive at the Trek.

Extras In-Camp

  • Free Snacks – On both Friday and Saturday afternoon there will be a free snack bar in camp to tide you over until dinner. Hours will be posted on the Daily Schedule closer to the event.
  • Massages – For just $20 for 20 minutes you can have a massage from one of our excellent massage team volunteers. You can make your appointment when you get in to camp on Friday afternoon. The massage volunteers generously donate all proceeds to Breathe California.
  • Cantina – Buy a beer, wine, or margarita at the Cantina if you’d like. Hours will be posted closer to the event. (All proceeds are donated back to Breathe California).
  • Entertainment – Enjoy evening entertainment on Friday and Saturday night. Details coming soon!
